InBoxer Readme

Release 1.0

InBoxer software uses a new approach that not only blocks unwanted email (spam), it typically removes more than 99% of spam from your Inbox. InBoxer analyzes the language used in the email you actually keep and compares it to the language used in the email you don't keep. InBoxer quickly creates your personal filter, based on your interests and the people you know. It accurately sorts your email and protects your Inbox.

InBoxer learns continuously. If you don't want a message, give InBoxer that example, and it will separate out similar messages. After a few quick setup steps, your mail will be sorted the way you want, and you won't have to look at mail you don't want.

This document tells you how to do the following tasks.

Check the System Requirements

InBoxer works with Microsoft Outlook 2000, 2002, and XP, and does not currently work with Outlook Express. InBoxer has been tested only on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows ME. Windows 95 is not supported.

Mail client Outlook 2000
Outlook 2002
Outlook XP
Operating System Windows NT 4.0
Windows 2000
Windows XP
Windows ME
Windows 98 SE

When you run the InBoxer install program, it does a "preflight check" to make sure that your configuration is supported. In some cases, the check will report that your installation may work. If you continue the installation at that point, we would be very interested in hearing how it works for you.

Installing InBoxer

  1. Close Outlook. If you don't, the install program will ask you to do so before continuing. On Windows NT, 2000, and XP you must have administrator privileges to install InBoxer. Once installed, other uses of the computer will have access to InBoxer, but private configuration and training files.

  2. Launch the InBoxerSetup.exe program.

  3. After installation, the install program will offer to let you read this file, and to start Outlook.

  4. The first time you start Outlook after installing InBoxer, two dialogs appear: a registration dialog, and a setup wizard. The registration dialog appears each time you start Outlook until you enter a valid activation code.

  5. Enter your email address and the InBoxer activation code if you have one. You can leave the activation code blank to start a 21-day free trial, and receive the activation code when you purchase InBoxer.

Choosing a Setup Method

When you run Outlook for the first time after installing InBoxer two windows appear: a setup wizard, and a registration dialog. The setup wizard offers three choices:

  1. Express Setup. We highly reccomend that all first time users choose Express Setup. InBoxer automatically configures your system, and learns from your messages. Go to the Correct any mistakes section for further information. (If you wish to make changes later, you can run the setup wizard again from the InBoxer menu.)

  2. Custom Setup. InBoxer suggests a configuration, but you can add or remove specific configuration items. In particular, Custom Setup lets you select a default set of message statistics built from thousands of messages.

  3. Advanced Setup. This launches the Control Panel, and is suitable for experienced users of InBoxer or for people with special configurations, such as many folders with pre-sorted spam, or many folders that are referenced by Outlook rules. Follow the instructions in the following section to complete setup.

Advanced Setup

Details about using the Advanced Setup may be found in the users guide included with this software, or in the online InBoxer help.

Correct Any Mistakes

Even after you set up InBoxer, it continues to learn about your messages. If you find a message in the wrong folder, highlight it and click Keep or Block to move it to your Inbox or your InBoxer-Blocked folder. If you keep checking and sorting your InBoxer-Review folder, InBoxer will get better and better at keeping only the mail you want in your Inbox.

Special Treatment for Some Senders

You may have some senders that you always want to hear from -- or ignore, no matter what the content of their message is. Select InBoxer Trust/Block to list senders or their domains (such as all mail from spam.com) as bad or good. Just select a message, click Trust/Block and select the fate for future mail from this sender or domain. If you block a domain, you can override it for a specific sender. Blocked mail is moved to the InBoxer-Blocked folder, where InBoxer will learn from it.

You're Done! Any Questions?

If you have trouble with anything, and your system meets the requirements listed above, check the troubleshooting guide, and please contact us at: support@InBoxer.com, or by selecting Support/Contact Support on the InBoxer menu. The Contact Support option prepares an email message for us that includes your log files, and lets you describe your problem in detail. You will be able to edit or cancel the email before it is sent.
