Quick Guide To Using ToonKard Card Creator

Introduction

Selecting the postcard icon from the ToonKit Cartoon Builder's Main Menu opens the integrated ToonKard Card Creator application in a new window. ToonKard allows you to send your creation along with a personalised message to anyone who has access to the Internet. Once you have created your desired face click on the postcard icon.
A new window will appear containing a row of icons and a number of form fields: Recipient Email, Sender Details, and Your Message. The purpose of each is self-explanitory. In the Recipient Email field you enter the email address of the person you wish to send the ToonKard to, e.g. recipient@company.com. In the Sender Details field you enter information about yourself - this can be your name, a nickname, or your email address. (ToonKit Tip: ToonKard is not email and therefore it doesn't automatically include the sender's email address. This allows you to send messages anonymously. Therefore, if you wish to receive a reply to your ToonKard and you're not sure if the recipient knows your email address, be sure to include it in Sender Details.)

In the Your Message field enter the contents of your message. Please note that there is a limit to the size of the message. ToonKard is most effective when sending short messages with an associated expression. However, in cases where the message you wish to send is quite long we suggest that you simply capture the image as a GIF (or JPEG) using a screen capture application and send the associated file as an attachment, allowing you to send as large a message as you want. This works particularly well in the case of Web mail applications (e.g. Hotmail) or Browser-based email systems (e.g. Netscape Communicator) as the image is automatically displayed along with the text.

Icons appearing at the top of the window are used to change the shape and colour of the speech bubble. The colour of the text can also be changed. (ToonKit Tip: It is a good idea to make shape and colour selections based on the content of your message!). The default is a oval dark-blue speech bubble with yellow text.

When you have completed filling in the form fields click on the postcard icon. The contents of the window will be replaced with your cartoon creation and the selected speech bubble with the corresponding message. The text can be edited by simply clicking on the speech bubble. In fact, an alternative to entering your message in the form field is to wait untill this stage of the ToonKard process.

Once you are satisfied with your message click on the postcard icon. Your ToonKard has been sent!

Receiving a ToonKard

When a ToonKard is 'posted' an image file (GIF) is automatically generated (compiled) and sent to the designated email address as an attachment. This GIF may be viewed in the normal way. There is also an alternative: the ToonKard may be viewed directly on the server using the integrated ToonViewer application and a specific password (which is sent to you along the the email). Contained within the email is password information for accessing the ToonKard. If the sender has identified him/herself this will be indicated in the content. The email supplies you with your ToonKard ID code and your Retrieval code. Typing these into the ToonKard Viewer of a ToonKit application running on any website or Home page - it doesn't have to be the original ToonKit website or the ToonKit Cartoon Builder from which it was sent - gives you access to your personal ToonKard. The location of the ToonKit from which the ToonKard was sent is included in the email, thereby directing the user to that site - which is another reason for putting ToonKit on your website or Home Page!

Privacy: All passwords are generated automatically by the ToonKit server and no human has any contact at any stage with the contents of a ToonKard message. The autonomous nature of the ToonKard service ensures total privacy. However, as is the case with email in general it is unadvisable to send information of a sensitive nature, such as credit card details.
