History
There are only two files involved; DiceyChallenge.exe and this help file you are reading, DiceyChallenge.htm
Make a folder for these two files and copy them into it, and create a shortcut to them in your desired location.
There are 6 dice. Your ‘turn’ consists of up to 4 throws of 1 or more of these dice.
After each throw you may sort your dice and choose which to keep and which to throw again.
At any time after your 1st throw you can score on one of 14 categories.
You can only score on a category once. You will get 14 turns per game and you must score a category on each turn.
The player with the highest score wins!
The main title bar will tell you who’s turn it is. Click the throw dice button and your first dice will appear.
Click dice and they will move to the ‘keep tray’ at the bottom. Click them again and they will return to the main, larger ‘throw tray’
When you click the throw button, only the dice in the ‘throw tray’ will be thrown again.
Shortcut tip: Right-clicking a die will move dice of the same value to/from the tray.
- scoring
At any time after your 1st throw you can score on a category. Hold the mouse pointer over one of the category buttons (two rows of seven buttons at top and bottom of the Dicey window) and the status bar will display how this category is scored, for example;
Odds - Score all odd dice, bonus 11 for 6 odd dice
Click the category button ONCE. The score you would get on that category will be previewed next to that button. Click some other categories to get more score previews.
Once you have sorted and thrown your dice and you want to score (or you have run out of throws) then simply click twice on a category – once to preview, and again to score. Don’t double-click as Dicey is programmed to ignore double-clicks on the category buttons as they can easily happen by accident.
- jokers
Each player starts with three yellow jokers above the throw button. At any
time after your 1st throw you may use one of your jokers to throw an individual
die again. This will not count as a throw. This may help you get that much-need ‘Dicey’ (6
dice the same) perhaps.
Play a joker by dragging it with the mouse and dropping it on the die you want to throw again.
- scores and records
At any time during the game display the scores by using the view menu or pressing F6.
At the end of the game the scores are automatically displayed. If the option is set to show records automatically and there is a new record, then the records window will appear. Use the special search buttons on the records to find today’s scores, or scores by individual players by clicking one of their scores in the records or typing their name in the search box.
The records display the 99 highest and 99 lowest scores, and these are saved to disk in the same folder as DiceyChallenge.exe (Please note the unregistered version only saves the top 9 highest and lowest scores.)
Custom User-defined Dice – Registered Version Only
Import your own dice to use with Dicey Challenge.
To work correctly, the dice images must confirm to the following specifications:
Once imported, these dice will be saved into the same folder as DiceyChallenge.exe with the names dudd1, dudd2 etc. (Dicey User Defined Die) and they will then be loaded automatically every time Dicey Challenge starts. NOTE: If dudd files already exist in this folder they will be over-written without prompting.

What happened to Dicey Challenge versions 1 to 3? Well I wrote them many years ago and the code was getting so messy I decided to do a complete re-write. Version 3 was actually published on a PC magazine cover CD way back in...oh, 1994 I think...
