We set NetBackup.lite and he/she backups, they backup, we backup.
You will achieve the best results, if you cut the flower on time. And don't forget to hoe and water it regularly. No, fortunately NetBackup.lite is not so difficult to treat, but on the other hand it won't reward you with a beautiful flower for your dear half! Never mind, it has another merits. Shall we go?

Planning
A base for successful setting and utilization of the application is correct planning. We have to realize, what we expect of backup and how we would imagine that, and try to make use of all features of the application. And since we learn most by means of examples, we will guide you through a model situation of setting the application in one larger firm.

Our model firm utilizes the Microsoft network with Active Directory Services. We use the Windows 2000 Server as a domain server, its name in the network is "Racek".. Most workstations (about 40) are computers with Windows 95 or Windows 98 systems, Mr. Salesman and Mr. Director have a notebook with Windows 2000. In the firm we use Outlook Express as a mail client and Mr. Director, Mr. Salesman and Ms. Secretary use Outlook 2000. Mail is stored on every workstation. One department uses the third application which stores data on the workstation disk (each workstation separately). Everyone uses some firm application which is running against the SQL server.

Backup will be run from and all scripts will be located on the server, in the folder "NetLogon". We will copy the whole folder of NetBackup.lite on the server, in the SYSVOL of Active Directory, preferably in the directory "\\racek\netlogon\netbackup". All following programs and scripts are launched from this folder.

What are we going to back up?
So what to do with that? We will determine some rules which each workstation should comply with and in which they should be identical. All users will store their documents in the folder "C:\Dokumenty". We will store both .PST files of the Outlook and the Outlook Express storage folder in the folder "C:\Dokumenty\Pošta". Further, 10 PC include a folder "C:\Dolik" with an older, but in other respects well-functioning DOS program.

The PCs of Mr. Director and Mr. Salesman contain profile folders, specifically desktop folders, somewhere else than in case of all the others, because they have Windows 2000. While we have to backup the folder "C:\Windows\Plocha" for the majority, in case of Mr. director it is "C:\Documents and Settings\Jandera\Plocha", in case of Mr. salesman it is "C:\Documents and Settings\Holy\Desktop". For Mr. Director uses Czech Windows 2000, while Mr. Salesman Holý would have nothing of the Czech version. Also the folders of "Favorites" are interconnected therewith. While these men have them in their profiles, all the others have them in "C:\Windows\Oblíbené položky". Well, to back up these folders we will simply select the backup of the whole profile. That's it. Recapitulation:

C:\Dokumenty
C:\Dolik
C:\Windows\Plocha
C:\Windows\Oblíbené položky
C:\Documents and Settings\Jandera
C:\Documents and Settings\Holy

Thus we have selected the folders, where user data are located. Backing up the SQL server and the domain is possible by instruments intended directly for this and backing up the PCs settings is useless and is beyond the scope of the NetBackup.lite application.

Where to put all that?
We have one disk on our server with approx. 100 GB of free space. It is ideal and suffices richly. We will share the folder called "NetBackup" here.

Thus the first step is completed. Do you want to go [back], or shall we [continue]?
