BASE
Bebox Active Sound Enhancer (light)
Copyright 1996,1997 Marco Nelissen
The 'light' version of Base is basically just an echo-machine, but don't be deceived by this: once you've heard a Base-enhanced SID-tune,
you'll never want to play one without it!
Base has 5 different echo-modes with adjustable delay and feedback:
- stereo
each channel has its own echo. Use this to simply add that extra
touch to the music.
- cross
An echo of the left channel is audible on the right, and vice versa,
but the echos do not bounce between channels. Use this to play Jean Michel Jarre's "Arpeggiator"
- ping-pong:
echo's bounce back and forth between channels. Use this to create
the illusion of a large hall.
- spatial
phase inverted stereo echo. Most useful when you have a mono
signal played in stereo. Use BeMikMod set to MONO to test this,
and you'll see that stereo, cross and ping-pong have no effect, but
spatial will bring a stereo-effect back into the sound.
- mono
mono echo. Some people prefer it simple...
In addition to this, you can request that Base apply a low pass filter to the
echo's. This is mostly useful for very short echo-delays, when the unfiltered
sound starts to sound "metallic". The filter is applied only to the echo's, the
original signal is not affected.
Note: Base assumes it is running on a 16 bit stereo big endian audio stream. It
will also work with 16 bit mono big endian streams if you only use 'stereo' mode.
(it is harmless to use the other modes, but sound will be suboptimal)
Base will not function properly on 8 bit or little endian streams.
