Change History
The following summarizes the changes to the SVG 1.0 specification from the
19 July 2001 Proposed Recommendation
to the 04 September 2001 Recommendation.
- Finalized the official URL for the SVG 1.0 Recommendation and the associated DTD.
- Numerous minor editorial changes, mostly consisting of grammar corrections
and typographical error fixes.
A small number of paragraphs in the specification were reworded solely for the purpose of improving clarity
in response to review comments on the Proposed Recommendation.
- Added an explicit note in the Document Structure chapter
telling content creators that it is necessary to include an explicit
xmlns[:prefix]="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"
attribute declaration so that
all SVG elements can be identified as belonging to the SVG namespace
and for compliance with the "Namespaces in XML" Recommendation.
Similarly, added an explicit note in the Document Structure chapter
telling content creators that it is necessary to include an explicit
xmlns[:prefix]="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"
attribute declaration so that
all XLink attributes can be identified as belonging to the XLink namespace
and for compliance with the "Namespaces in XML" Recommendation.
Fixed examples throughout the specification to conform to these notes.
- Added a 'version' attribute to the 'svg' element in response to
W3C member feedback on the Proposed Recommendation.
The 'version' attribute is #FIXED to the value "1.0".
This new attribute requires no changes to any existing SVG content
nor to any existing SVG tools.
Future versions of SVG content (e.g., SVG content supporting the "2.0" specification)
will be required to provide an explicit 'version' attribute.
- Revised the wording in the Metadata
to mention and hyperlink to the Semantic Web Initiative in response to
review comments on the Proposed Recommendation.
- Added a clarification to the description of the 'cursor' element
in the Interactivity chapter in response to
review comments on the Proposed Recommendation. The clarification
provides explanation on why PNG is a suitable format for cursors
and what is required if image formats other PNG are used to define
the cursor bits and mask.
- Fixed a minor error in the definition of the 'direction' property. In the Proposed Recommendation, the
property was defined such that the property did not apply to the
'altGlyph' element but the SVG DOM definition was defined such that the property
did apply to the 'altGlyph' element. The language definition was incorrect and has been fixed
to match the SVG DOM definition.
- Fixed an error in the SVG DOM in the area of filter effects.
The SVG language allows styling properties to be set of all filter primitives,
but, in the Proposed Recommmendation, the SVG DOM only allowed
access to styling properties
on four of the filter primitives. The SVG DOM has been updated
to include SVGStylable as a base class for all of the interfaces corresponding
to filter primitives.
- In the References appendix,
removed references to RFC1738 and RFC1808 because they have been
superceded by RFC2396. Also, updated the URL for COLORIMETRY
to point directly to the CIE web site rather than to an indirect URL.
