WWMastermind 2D is a game to train your brain. Its aim is to find a combination of colors by doing a guess and evaluating it iteratively.
The color combination to find is randomly set by the computer. It is a two-dimensional distribution of colored balls - instead of one in a line (also known as the 'classic' Mastermind game).
The main window of WWMastermind 2D consists of the try window on the right, the evaluation window on the left, the menu above them and an info area at the bottom.
The try window occupies the right-hand part of the main window. It contains the playboard, the information controls and a set of buttons.
On the playboard there are the colored balls
displayed. At the beginning all balls have gray color. This can be
changed by clicking with the mouse (left or right, it doesn't matter)
on a ball and selecting a new color from the appearing pop-up menu.
If a new game has not started yet, this will be done automatically
after the clicking. When all balls are set to a color different from
gray, the evaluation can be started by pressing the OK button:
The button in the middle (
) is the cancel button. It has the same effect like selecting 'End
game' from the play menu.
The rightmost button (
) is the help button. Pressing it brings up the help window showing
information about WWMastermind 2D.
Information about the elapsed time of the current game and the number of the current try can be found on the upper right.
Above the playboard all available colors are displayed.
This window shows the done and stored tries in their temporal order. On the right-hand side of the displayed try you find the evaluation for it. The small signs have the following meaning (with a decreasing degree of correspondance) :
:
ball with the right color on the right position.
:
ball with the right color, placed in the right horizontal line.
:
ball with the right color, but misplaced.
Only the highest degree of correspondance is shown, i.e., a right ball appears only once.

Information about the program |
Start a new game by clicking in the try window on a gray ball or selecting 'Start new game' from the 'Play' menu.
The color of a ball can be changed by clicking on it - with the left or right mouse button, it doesn't matter. From the appearing pop-up menu, select the new color. Before evaluating the try, all balls have to be given a new color to, i.e., a color different from gray.
After setting a color for all balls in the try window, the guess has to be evaluated. This is done by pressing the OK button. The evaluation is shown in the left part of the window. The balls in the try window are reset to gray.
The arrangement of the balls can be selected on the corresponding options page. Six arrangements - different in size and/or geometrical form - are available. If the arrangement is changed during a running game, this game is stopped and a new one with the new arrangement is started. The last arrangement will be used automatically the next time the program is started.
If you prefer to have the colors distributed equally you can choose that a maximum number of different colors is used. Also, the maximum number of guesses to find out the right combination of colors can be set on this options page. In addition, the maximum time for finding the right combination of colors can be set (optional).
All these settings on the 'Special' page take effect only the next time the program is started.
Informations about updates of WWMastermind 2D can be found on the WesargWare homepage www.wesargware.de.
