The Software Manager (and Mandrake Update) are utilities for maintaining software on a Mandrake system; it can retrieve software from the Internet or from local media. The Software Manager can be used for two different purposes:

1) To update software packages that are already installed on a system with security-related updates.

2) To install & remove software on a system.

In the first part of this chapter, the Mandrake Update will be used to update a system with the latest security updates. In the second part, the Software Manager will be used to add and remove software on a system.
